The Young and the Restless

Christian Le Blanc: Time To Look For a New Job!

Christian LeBlanc Almost Thought He Was Fired Before Even Filming a Scene on The Young and the Restless

Christian LeBlanc, the actor behind The Young and the Restless’s beloved Michael Baldwin, has had a career full of twists, drama, and more than a few hair-raising moments—both on-screen and off. But few fans know just how close he came to thinking his time on the iconic soap was over before he even filmed a single scene.

LeBlanc’s journey didn’t start in front of the camera. His very first day on the show was for a cast photo shoot, and true to form, he spent the day doing what he does best: talking. But longtime viewers of Y&R know that Michael Baldwin hasn’t always been the witty, beloved lawyer fans adore today. In his early days, Michael was unhinged, full-on soap villain material. At one point, the character became so obsessed with Christine that he rented the apartment next door, broke through a shared wall, and attacked her.

Recalling those intense early scenes, Christian admits he was terrified—not of acting itself, but of crossing boundaries with his scene partner. Luckily, Laura Lee Bell (who plays Christine) was fearless, fully committed, and never uncomfortable. That trust allowed Christian to push himself further than he imagined, shaping the complex character Michael Baldwin would become.

But as Michael spiraled into villainy on screen, Christian worried the inevitable had arrived. “Villains don’t usually stick around forever,” he reflects. And one moment in particular made him think the axe was coming down. Michael’s character had grown a beard while in prison, and Christian requested to shave for the Emmys. When production said yes, his first thought was: “Oh no, they’re letting me shave. I’m fired. Time to find a new job.”

As it turned out, he wasn’t fired at all. The Bell family of actors and producers reassured him, saying, “You’re the most loved fired person we’ve ever had. Don’t worry—we’ll be calling you back.” And they did. Michael Baldwin went on to get therapy, redemption, and a second chance, eventually becoming one of Genoa City’s most iconic characters.

Decades later, Christian says Michael still carries a shadow of that darkness beneath the surface. Lauren is the anchor keeping him grounded, but Christian wonders what might happen if that old monster resurfaces. Could someone from Michael’s past return? Could there be unresolved revenge, surprised children, or a storyline ready to explode? He even jokes about the secretaries Michael abused in earlier episodes.

Despite these dark moments, Christian insists he is nothing like his character. “Michael is meaner and less patient,” he says. Christian, on the other hand, is a talker, a wanderer, and a storyteller—though he admits to one similarity: “I talk a lot, in the script and in life.”

So, was Christian LeBlanc actually close to losing his job? Not really—but he certainly thought he was. And thankfully for fans, he was wrong. Genoa City wouldn’t be the same without Michael Baldwin and the actor who brought him to life.

What’s next for Michael Baldwin? Fans are already speculating on potential storylines, and Christian is keeping them guessing. One thing is certain: with him on the show, there’s plenty more drama, redemption, and intrigue to come.
