“CBS Legend Passes Away at 47-Young And The Restless Devon Teases Another Tragic Loss!”
CBS Mourns as Soap Icon’s Legacy Lives On: “The Young and the Restless” Star Brighton James Marks 21 Years Amid Tragic Rumors
In a bittersweet moment for fans of CBS’s long-running daytime drama The Young and the Restless, June 1st marked the 21st anniversary of Brighton James’ unforgettable debut as Devon Hamilton. But as the celebration unfolded, a somber shadow lingered—teasing whispers of another tragic loss in the beloved soap opera family.
Brighton James, a name now etched into the very fabric of Y&R, made his first appearance on June 1, 2004. His portrayal of Devon—originally a troubled teen taken in by the Winters family—quickly evolved into one of the most compelling and emotionally resonant arcs in soap history. For over two decades, James has brought heartache, resilience, and authenticity to the screen, captivating viewers and winning two Daytime Emmy Awards in the process.
Yet, his path to Genoa City almost didn’t happen.
As he recently recounted to Soaps.com, James was just 17 when he found himself at a crossroads. “That day, I had a Coca-Cola national commercial audition and a soap opera audition,” he recalled. “I really wanted the commercial—because let’s be honest, it paid well. I thought, what would a soap want with a kid like me?”
But fate had other plans.
At his Y&R audition, casting director Marnie Saitta stopped him mid-scene, exclaiming, “Finally, someone who reads this role the way it’s meant to be read.” That moment sealed his destiny. “It gave me all the confidence in the world,” James said. “I knew I belonged.”
