Congratulations! The Britch Is Back? General Hospital’s Kelly Thiebaud Returns to ‘Twists and Turns’

More than two years after General Hospital killed off Dr. Britt Westbourne, portrayer Kelly Thiebaud is returning to Port Charles in July, our sister site Deadline reports.

“It’s good to be home,” the actress told the website. What she didn’t say, however, was whether she would be reprising her role of Britt, which she played off and on from 2012 to 2023.

Is Kelly Thiebaud Returning as Britt on General Hospital?

Executive producer Frank Valentini didn’t clarify the matter, either. “I am thrilled to have Kelly back on our show,” he said. “We have some great twists and turns planned for her character.”

Yeah, yeah, but what character? If Britt is being resurrected after dying at the hand — well, the hook — of Heather Webber, she would hardly be the first character to make a round trip to the hereafter.

(Look at all the others — including her former lovers, Nikolas Cassadine and Jason Morgan!) But General Hospital has a habit of rehiring actors for new parts.

Consider: Michael Easton played One Life to Live’s John McBain on General Hospital, then Dr. Silas Clay, then Dr. Hamilton Finn.

Roger Howarth played One Life to Live’s Todd Manning on General Hospital, then Franco Baldwin, then Austin Gatlin-Holt. Tamara Braun played Carly Spencer, then Dr. Kim Nero. Sarah Joy Brown played Carly, too, then Claudia Zacchara.

Heck, even Anthony Geary once played a character other than Luke Spencer; he was Luke’s cousin, Bill Eckert. So it’s been done… a lot. (Check out the long list of stars who tackled two roles on the same show.)

Deadline has learned that Kelly Thiebaud, who played Dr. Britt Westbourne, is returning to the ABC sudser in July.

“It is good to be home,” says Thiebaud.

“I am thrilled to have Kelly back on our show,” adds GH Executive Producer Frank Valentini. “We have some great twists and turns planned for her character.”

That’s the rub, though: it’s not clear if she will return as Britt or a different character. The last time fans saw her as Britt, she was attacked by a serial killer and died from his poisonous hook.

(Ouch). At the time of her death, Britt was also exhibiting symptoms of Huntington’s disease. (Double ouch).

Thiebaud first joined GH in 2012. She went on recurring status a few years later and has come and gone from the sudser several times. Her last appearance was in 2023, a year after she won her first Daytime Emmy for playing Britt.

Away from Port Charles, Thiebaud played Eva Vasquez on ABC’s Station 19 for two seasons.

On Thursday, it was revealed that Jackson, who plays Lucky Spencer, is leaving the ABC soap. He rejoined the show last summer after a nearly 10-year hiatus.

“We were so glad Jonathan was able to reprise the role of Lucky, even if was for a limited time,” Valentini said in a statement. “We wish him nothing but the best, and the door is always open for Jonathan to return.”
