Days of Our Lives Legend Dead at 88
Soap Fans Mourn the Loss of Ruth Buzzi, Former Days of Our Lives Actress
Hollywood, CA — The soap opera world is mourning the loss of beloved actress and comedian Ruth Buzzi, who passed away on May 1 at the age of 88 due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
Best known for her iconic work on Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, Buzzi was one of only three cast members to appear in every episode of the hit comedy series. However, daytime television fans will also remember her for her brief but memorable role on NBC’s Days of Our Lives during the 1980s.
In 1983, Buzzi took on the quirky role of Leticia Bradford, the eccentric second cousin of Salem’s resident oddball Eugene Bradford. Her character appeared during the infamous “Salem Slasher” storyline. When Eugene was falsely accused of murdering his wife, Trista—also a cousin of Marlena Evans—Leticia went to great lengths to hide and protect him, offering shelter in her home filled with pets.
Tragically, Leticia’s story ended in classic soap fashion. She was found murdered with a knife in her back and a raven feather beside her—an eerie clue tied both to the killer and to one of Leticia’s beloved pets. Though her time in Salem was brief, Buzzi’s unique energy and comedic flair left a lasting impression on viewers.
Two decades later, Buzzi returned to daytime in 2003 with a role on Passions, playing Nurse Kravitz—a character caught in the show’s infamous supernatural antics involving witches and demons.
Beyond soap operas, Buzzi’s career spanned decades in comedy, stage, and television, where she brought joy and laughter to millions with her unforgettable characters.
She is survived by her husband of many years, Kent Perkins, along with family, friends, and generations of fans who remember her fondly.
Ruth Buzzi was truly one of a kind—a brilliant performer with unmatched comedic timing and a heart full of warmth. Her contributions to both comedy and daytime television will never be forgotten.
