Days of our Lives: May Sweeps Stuns Salem – John Black Death and Sarah Heartbroken

Hey, Days of Our Lives fans — it is about to be May, and we are already in sweeps. There is devastation coming to Salem as John Black’s death is confirmed, and we’ve also got Sarah set for heartbreak among other big action.

It’s Belinda from Soap Dirt, and let’s look ahead together at what we hope to see in the 15 episodes left in May sweeps and what action is going down on Days.

Bo Brady Needs a Miracle

First off, let’s talk about Bo Brady. He needs a miracle right now — and he’s going to get it.

After Shawn shot him, Bo fell into a coma where he has remained for two years. Last week marked the unfortunate anniversary — April 24, 2023 — of when Shawn pulled the trigger on his dad.

Now, Bo is dying of sepsis from a ventilator-related infection.

But Kayla Brady has a guy on staff — Dr. Russell — who is researching an amazing new sepsis drug. Kayla wants to help Bo, but Dr. Russell has to refuse because the drug isn’t in human trials yet. He can’t release it legally, even though he wants to be compassionate.

Shawn won’t let it go and pitches a plan to Steve Johnson — they’re going to commit a crime and steal the cure.

Once they get the serum, the infection shock plus the infusion of the experimental drug might be what pulls Bo out of his coma.

Hope and Bo Brady may return to Salem before the end of May — possibly early June.

Johnny DiMera’s Daddy Issues Explode

Next, let’s talk about Johnny DiMera and his deepening daddy issues.

After learning what EJ did to Sami, Johnny is spiraling over impending fatherhood. He’s dealing with trauma from his own origins — a child of rape — and now, he’s facing becoming a father himself to Tate and Sophia’s baby, whom he and Chanel planned to adopt.

Feeling morally conflicted, Johnny backs out and breaks Chanel’s heart.

Later, Johnny is alone in a room at the Salem Inn — and Tate finds him and punches him in the face, furious over the betrayal. Sophia’s college hopes were riding on this adoption.

That punch might knock some sense into Johnny.

It looks like Johnny will relent during May sweeps, apologize to Chanel, and agree to go through with the adoption.

Who Shot EJ DiMera?

A big mystery unfolds — who shot EJ?

The shooter may be revealed, but they might not go to prison. Instead, the shooter’s mother could end up behind bars.

Johnny brought Roman’s gun to the mansion the day EJ was shot, intending to kill him for coercing Sami into sex and wrecking his life. But it seems Johnny couldn’t pull the trigger — he left the gun and stormed off.

Then, little Rachel Black picked it up and shot her uncle EJ — at least, that’s what the leak says.

The source seems credible — especially since Soap Dirt received pushback from the Days press office after publishing it.

Kristen DiMera might take the fall for her daughter, confessing to protect Rachel. A behind-the-scenes photo shows Kristen in prison blues, possibly from Statesville.

Kristen’s no stranger to prison — and EJ may push her to confess, ignoring his recent promise to Belle to be a better man.

John Black’s Tragic Farewell

The most emotional story of May sweeps? The end of John Black’s life.

His funeral is set for June, bringing back beloved characters like Carrie Brady, Sami Brady, Will Horton, a recast Ariana Horton, and more.

It’s an emotional sendoff for both John and actor Drake Hogestyn. While Drake was still alive when these scenes were filmed, his recent passing makes the farewell bittersweet.

Andrew Donovan is expected to confirm John’s death to Marina and Steve — and to John’s son, Paul.

Paul will be devastated, as will John’s other children — Belle and Brady.

But there’s a twist — the writers left John’s death a bit mysterious and open-ended, hoping Drake would recover and they could eventually revive the character.

Sarah Horton’s Big Fat Lie

Lastly, we turn to Sarah Horton and the secret she’s keeping from Xander Kiriakis.

Sarah has been lucky so far — no one has busted her for conspiring with Philip to hide the forgery from Xander.

Philip could have thrown Sarah under the bus to save himself from Xander’s wrath. Alex Kiriakis and Stephanie are tired of the lies, but haven’t ratted her out.

Now Maggie knows — and she’s furious, mostly at Philip, not Sarah.

Maggie adores Xander like a son, so she’s especially protective.

When Maggie confronts Philip this week, Xander might overhear. He’s a sneaky eavesdropper for a big guy.

Once Xander finds out the truth, he’ll probably be heartbroken and leave. Since Maggie owns the mansion, it’s more likely Xander will move out — not Sarah.

Hopefully, he cools off and remembers all the things Sarah has forgiven him for. Still, it looks like Xander and Sarah’s relationship will implode, and she has no one to blame but herself.

Although, to be fair — she could blame Philip. I mean, who wouldn’t?
