Days of Our Lives Whodunit: On the Eve of EJ’s Shooting, a Crucial Clue Is Dropped…

It looks like EJ’s shooter has just shown up at the DiMera mansion. We know that it’s happening tomorrow and we know that today’s Days of Our Lives episode ended with EJ addressing someone, wanting to know what they’re doing there.

The list of suspects is long. And most of them popped up in Wednesday’s episode. We aren’t yet sure who’s going to do the shooting, but after the last couple days, we’re pretty sure we can wipe one person off the suspect list.

Paulina hinted that he’d be better off dead — taken care of “permanently” — and Jada seemed to agree. Roman noted he could kill EJ, while Chanel and EJ talked about how as far as Johnny was concerned, his father was “dead” to him. And Gabi just flat out said she could kill EJ, earning a gentle warning from Rafe.

Days Ava smirks as she sits in her room in the pub, holding a tablet

One way or another, virtually everyone noted EJ should be dead. Everyone but Ava. On the surface, she seemed to be the most obvious suspect with how much she was talking to herself about EJ paying. Plus, she rushed out of the pub like a woman on a mission.

But despite waving Melinda’s gun around, she just talked on Wednesday about EJ paying for what he’s done to everyone. It’s a small, but still noticeable distinction in a penultimate episode filled with murderous intentions. Instead of a suspect, she felt more like a Greek chorus, letting us know what’s to come. Namely, that everyone in town hates EJ, and someone’s going to try to kill him.

To be clear, Dan Feuerriegel has been filming steadily ever since the shooting, which, given how far ahead Days of Our Lives films, means he’s not going anywhere well into 2026. EJ isn’t leaving. But Ava is.

Thursday is Tamara Braun’s last day on air — she stopped filming back in July. If we knew she was still airing for a little while but was leaving soon, Ava could have still been a viable suspect. In fact, she would have probably been our number one suspect!

As it is, though, between her leaving Salem the day of EJ’s shooting and Ava being just about the only one who didn’t make a remark about EJ dying, we’re going to say she’s not one of the suspects anymore. The show wouldn’t — it couldn’t — make the shooter someone we’ll never see again. There’s just no drama in that playing out. Or rather, in not playing out.

But don’t think that makes things much easier. Because as Ava also noted in Wednesday’s episode, EJ’s hurt virtually everyone in town. Knocking one suspect off the list is like saying we’ve almost drained a lake after taking one bucket of water out of it.

We have a long, long ways to go yet!
