Sharon Case On How Noah’s Recast Impacted Her In Real Life

When actors play family on screen, those bonds often extend beyond the cameras — and that’s exactly the case for The Young and the Restless star Sharon Case and her former on-screen son Rory Gibson. In a recent interview, Sharon opened up about how Rory’s departure affected her personally and what it’s been like working with her new TV son, Lucas Adams.

When news broke that Noah Newman would be recast yet again, fans were naturally curious about how the transition would go. What they didn’t know, however, was that Sharon Case and Joshua Morrow — who play Noah’s parents, Sharon and Nick — were deeply involved in the casting process.

Speaking with Soap Opera Digest, Sharon revealed that CBS invited both she and Joshua to take part in the screen tests for the role. The network even set up a special theater where executives could watch the chemistry tests play out live. “The actors auditioning for Noah were paired with us,” Sharon explained, “so they could see how natural it felt — how we looked as a family, how our energy meshed.”

After testing with several hopefuls, Lucas Adams walked in — and everything just clicked. “We picked a good one,” Sharon said proudly. “We’ve already started taping, and he’s a really good actor.”

That’s high praise coming from someone who’s played Noah’s mother for decades and knows the character’s heart inside and out. Still, Sharon made sure to give a warm shoutout to Rory Gibson, who played Noah before Lucas. “I was sorry to see Rory go,” she said, “but he’s doing amazing things over on General Hospital. He’s right where he belongs.”

It’s the kind of genuine positivity fans love to see — no bitterness, no awkward transitions, just respect and encouragement between co-stars. That supportive energy is part of what’s helped the recast feel so seamless for longtime viewers.

For Lucas Adams, joining Y&R as Noah has been a dream come true. The actor, who previously starred as Tripp Dalton on Days of Our Lives, admitted he felt both excited and nervous stepping into such an iconic legacy role. “This is one of the most famous families in daytime,” he said. “I definitely felt the weight of that.”

But any nerves disappeared quickly once he met Sharon and Joshua. “They talked with me before the screen test, made me feel comfortable — and once the cameras started rolling, the chemistry was just there.”

Interestingly, this isn’t Lucas’s first time on The Young and the Restless. In 2012, a young Adams appeared briefly as Wesley, opposite American Idol alum Diana DeGarmo. Talk about a full-circle moment!

Now that Noah is officially back on screen — recovering from a serious accident and navigating a new chapter — fans are seeing a deeper, more mature side of the character. Lucas hinted that while Noah has been through a lot, he remains “a good kid with a great heart.”

Meanwhile, Sharon’s character is balancing her son’s recovery with Mariah’s emotional struggles, but according to Sharon, the Newman family dynamic has never been stronger. In fact, the storyline may even bring Sharon and Nick closer together again — something fans have been quietly hoping for.

As Y&R viewers get used to the new Noah, the response so far has been overwhelmingly positive. Lucas’s easy chemistry with Sharon and Joshua makes it clear that the casting choice was spot-on.

So, what do you think of Lucas Adams as Noah Newman? Was he the perfect pick?

One thing’s for sure: with this kind of on-screen and off-screen support, Noah’s latest chapter in Genoa City is off to a promising start.
