The Young and the Restless

Lauralee Bell Directing A New Soap!

Laura Lee Bell Quietly Makes a Power Move Into Prime-Time Television

Fans might think Christine Blair’s dream wedding on The Young and the Restless marked the end of Laura Lee Bell’s big moment for the year—but behind the scenes, the actress is stepping directly into a new powerhouse era. And honestly? It might be her most iconic move yet.

With Danny and Christine’s wedding storyline now officially wrapped, both Laura Lee Bell and Michael Damian have been keeping busy with outside projects. But it’s Laura Lee’s latest venture that’s turning heads across the soap world: she is currently developing a brand-new prime-time soap opera alongside As the World Turns alum Martha Byrne.

And for anyone familiar with Laura Lee’s résumé, this shift into producing isn’t new territory. Back in 2013, she won an Emmy Award for her short-form drama mI promise, a project she not only starred in but also wrote, directed, and executive produced. Now, however, she’s aiming much bigger.

According to Laura Lee, the new series is a “full-on prime-time soap.” She even name-checked Dynasty as one of the tonal inspirations—glamour, drama, power, the whole delicious package. And here’s the exciting part: there is already genuine industry interest. Companies are reviewing the project, making this very much an active development and not just an idea floating around Hollywood.

In an interview, Laura Lee also opened up about her love for old-school television viewing. She mentioned watching The Summer I Turned Pretty with her daughter and realizing how much she missed the weekly-episode anticipation—an energy she hopes to bring back with her new show.

But here’s where the soap world collectively gasps.

When asked if she’d ever consider directing an episode of The Young and the Restless or The Bold and the Beautiful, Laura Lee didn’t shut the door. Quite the opposite.

“I never say never,” she said.

Given her family legacy, that’s a massive statement. Laura Lee’s parents, the legendary William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell, created both Y&R and B&B. Her brother, Brad Bell, has served as executive producer and head writer of The Bold and the Beautiful for nearly 30 years. If there’s such a thing as a royal family in daytime TV, the Bells are it.

Laura Lee also praised fellow actors who have stepped into behind-the-scenes roles, including Heather Tom at B&B, who’s thriving as a director and writer, and Elizabeth Hendrickson, who has also taken on directing duties at Y&R.

For now, Laura Lee says she’s simply grateful to be appearing on-screen more frequently and to be telling Christine’s story again. But it’s clear that creatives like her don’t stay in a single lane for long. With her experience, her connections, and a lifetime embedded in the world of soaps, her new prime-time project could become something truly special.
