He was originally hired as part of a scheme involving Sonny Kiriakis and Titan, and his relationship with Sonny quickly became tangled in manipulation, blackmail and deception.

Leo even tried to force Sonny into marriage after creating damaging allegations against him.

Things became even more chaotic when Leo fought with Sonny and Will Horton, fell and hit his head, and was presumed dead.

Except Leo was not dead at all.

He later returned and used the situation to blackmail Sonny into marrying him.

That marriage eventually fell apart once the truth about Leo’s past and schemes came to light.

At that stage, Leo was one of Salem’s biggest outsiders.

But that version of Leo is very different from the man viewers see today.

Over time, he has gradually built genuine friendships, developed a stronger sense of self-worth and become someone even former enemies can tolerate — and in some cases genuinely care about.

Chad DiMera, Xander Kiriakis and others who once could barely stand him now see a more complicated and often surprisingly loyal side of Leo.

Craig Wesley Was One of Leo’s Biggest Romantic Disasters

Leo’s romantic history has been just as chaotic as his criminal one.

His relationship with Craig Wesley seemed like it might become something real, despite beginning under suspicious circumstances.

Leo was accused of pursuing wealthy Craig for money, but he eventually insisted that his feelings had become genuine.

Their wedding was supposed to be a major new beginning.

Instead, it became another public disaster.

Leo’s previous marriage to Darius Rose — also known as Jackie Cox — was exposed as a green-card arrangement, destroying the ceremony.

He no longer wanted Dimitri.

That rejection infuriated Dimitri.

Dimitri Kidnaps Gwen and Uses Her to Lure Leo

The situation escalated dramatically when Dimitri kidnapped Gwen as part of a plan to draw Leo to Alamainia.

Leo went after her once he realized what had happened.

Rafe Hernandez also followed and ultimately found himself held at gunpoint.

Leo eventually struck a deal with Dimitri.

If Dimitri released Gwen and Rafe, Leo would remain behind with him.

That left Leo trapped in an emotionally miserable situation, trying to convince Dimitri that the life he truly wants is back in Salem.

Leo now has friends.

He has people who genuinely care about him.

Most importantly, he has finally learned that he deserves love rather than possession.

Dimitri Keeps Trying to Buy Leo’s Heart
