Billy Abbott’s Chancellor Obsession Could Trigger an Abbott Family War on The Young and the Restless
Billy Abbott may be heading toward one of his biggest meltdowns yet on The Young and the Restless as his determination to take Chancellor away from Lily Winters and Cane Ashby threatens to put him at war with nearly everyone around him.
After discovering loan documents that appear to suggest Chancellor rightfully belongs to the Abbott family, Billy has become increasingly convinced that the company should be his. But there is one major problem with that belief: even if the documents are legitimate, Chancellor would not belong to Billy alone.
It would potentially belong to all four of John Abbott’s children—Billy, Jack, Ashley and Traci.
And that could completely change everything.
Billy declares war on Lily
Billy has already made his intentions clear to Lily.
He wants Chancellor.
Lily, furious over his claims and the files he removed, told Billy that he was fired and demanded that he return the documents. Billy immediately pushed back, insisting that Lily no longer had the authority to fire him if his claim to Chancellor proves correct.
The confrontation effectively launched a war between them.
Cane is equally angry.
He has warned Billy that if Billy tries to hurt Lily by taking Chancellor away from her, he will have to deal with him as well.
That puts Billy directly against both Lily and Cane at a moment when his obsession appears to be growing stronger by the day.
Cane turns to Jack for help
Cane soon approaches Jack Abbott in hopes that he can convince Billy to back down.
Jack, however, wants no part of the battle.
He makes it clear that Billy’s fight over Chancellor is not something he wants to become involved in. At the same time, Jack has one major concern: John Abbott’s legacy.
If Billy, Cane or anyone else damages their father’s reputation while fighting over Chancellor, Jack will not remain silent.
That warning could prove important because Billy seems increasingly willing to push boundaries to get what he wants.
When Billy discovers Cane meeting with Jack, he storms into the Jabot office and makes it clear that he has no intention of abandoning his pursuit of Chancellor.
But when Jack asks Billy a simple question—why does he want Chancellor so badly?—Billy becomes angry and leaves.
That reaction says a lot about just how personal this battle has become.
Jack, Ashley and Traci could stop Billy
Billy may currently be acting as though he has already won, but his siblings could hold the power to stop him.
If Chancellor truly belongs to John Abbott’s heirs, Billy would only control one portion of that inheritance.
Jack, Ashley and Traci would each have an equal interest.
Ashley reportedly believes it may be easier to simply let Billy have what he wants, while Traci does not want her brother hurting other people—or himself.
But Billy’s increasingly reckless behavior could force them to reconsider.
Lily is also expected to appeal directly to Jack for help.
If Jack and his sisters decide that Billy has gone too far, they could potentially approve another arrangement without him.
One possibility would be allowing Lily to repay the original Chancellor debt, including interest, and retain control of the company.
If three of the four Abbott heirs agreed to such a deal, Billy could find himself completely shut out.
And that could send him over the edge.
Sally may reach her breaking point
Billy’s obsession is also threatening his relationship with Sally.
Sally is reportedly unhappy that Billy is once again making Chancellor the center of his life.
Jack has already questioned why Billy is spending so much energy on corporate revenge when he should be concentrating on Sally and the baby they are expecting.
That concern could eventually become the deciding factor for the Abbott family.
If Sally begins threatening to leave Billy because of his behavior, Jack, Ashley and Traci may decide they have to intervene—not to punish Billy, but to save him from himself.
For Jack, that would be especially emotional.
Billy has previously acknowledged that because of their age difference, Jack was almost like a father to him before Kyle was born. Jack has spent much of Billy’s adult life trying to pull his younger brother back from destructive decisions.
This could become another moment when Jack feels forced to make a painful choice for Billy’s own good.
Victor could make everything worse
Meanwhile, Victor Newman is already preparing his own attack.
If Newman Media launches a campaign against Billy, Victor could use Billy’s behavior to question whether John Abbott would approve of what his son is doing.
That would hit Jack where it hurts most.
The Abbott patriarch’s reputation may ultimately matter more to Jack than Billy’s desire to control Chancellor.
If Victor drags John’s name into the fight, Jack and his sisters may decide that the only way to protect their father’s legacy is to end Billy’s Chancellor campaign themselves.
Will Billy lose everything?
The irony is that Billy may be closer than ever to getting what he thinks he wants while simultaneously putting his entire life at risk.
He could lose Chancellor.
He could lose Sally.
He could destroy his relationship with Jack, Ashley and Traci.
And he could turn Lily and Cane into permanent enemies.
If his own family ultimately blocks his takeover and returns Chancellor to Lily, Billy may view it as the ultimate betrayal.
He could even accuse Jack of siding with Victor against him.
But from Jack’s perspective, stopping Billy may be the only way to prevent him from completely destroying himself.
Billy has become consumed by Chancellor.
And if it is suddenly taken away just when he believes victory is within reach, Genoa City may be about to witness Billy Abbott’s biggest explosion yet.
