Days of Our Lives Shocker: Is Chloe Lane Returning to Salem With a New Face?

Days of Our Lives may be preparing for a major Salem comeback — but if Chloe Lane returns, longtime fans could see a very different actress stepping into the iconic role.

Chloe has been away from Salem for nearly three years, but recent storyline developments, comments from former portrayer Nadia Bjorlin, and the arrival of former General Hospital star Sofia Mattsson have fueled speculation that DAYS could be preparing to recast the character.

And right now, there may be more reasons than ever for Chloe to come home.

Chloe Lane Has Been Missing From Salem Since 2023

Chloe left Salem in October 2023 after a turbulent period in her romantic life.

At the time, she had become deeply involved with Xander Kiriakis. Their relationship moved quickly, with Xander eventually proposing marriage. Chloe initially hesitated before agreeing, and the couple appeared ready to leave town and elope.

Everything changed when Chloe learned that Xander was the biological father of Sarah Horton’s daughter, Victoria.

Realizing that Xander still had powerful emotional ties to Sarah, Chloe decided their romance may have been built largely on rebound feelings. Rather than continue toward a marriage that suddenly seemed uncertain, she ended the relationship.

Chloe then reconnected with another familiar man from her past — Philip Kiriakis.

Philip and Chloe have one of the longest romantic histories on DAYS, dating all the way back to their younger years at Salem High. Eventually, the two decided to leave Salem together and begin again in New York.

For Chloe, the move also allowed her to be closer to her son Parker and her parents, Craig and Nancy, while giving her more opportunities to pursue her opera career.

But Philip later returned to Salem without her.

He explained that his renewed relationship with Chloe had not worked out, although the two apparently remained friends.

Nadia Bjorlin Reportedly Turned Down a DAYS Return

The biggest clue that DAYS may have plans for Chloe comes from Nadia Bjorlin herself.

Bjorlin recently revealed that the soap had approached her about returning, but she declined the opportunity.

The actress now lives in Ireland with her husband and their children, making a return to the demanding filming schedule in Los Angeles extremely difficult.

Bjorlin has made it clear that saying no was emotionally difficult because Chloe has been such an important part of her career. However, her comments also appeared to leave the door open for the show to continue Chloe’s story without her.

That raises one obvious question:

Could DAYS recast Chloe Lane?

If the writers specifically wanted Chloe back badly enough to contact Bjorlin, there is a strong possibility that the character is needed for an upcoming storyline.

And there is already one actress on the DAYS set whose mystery role has fans talking.

Could Sofia Mattsson Be the New Chloe?

Former General Hospital actress Sofia Mattsson joined Days of Our Lives in an undisclosed role earlier this year.

Mattsson is best known to soap fans for playing Sasha Gilmore Corbin on GH.

Her DAYS casting immediately generated speculation because the show has kept the identity of her new character unusually secretive.

One theory suggested she might portray another version of Abigail DiMera, but another possibility is becoming increasingly interesting: Mattsson could potentially be playing Chloe Lane.

Mattsson is naturally blonde, but promotional material connected with her DAYS arrival showed her with noticeably darker hair — much closer to Chloe’s signature brunette appearance.

That alone certainly does not confirm anything.

However, when combined with Bjorlin revealing that DAYS had asked her to return, the timing becomes difficult to ignore.

If producers knew Bjorlin was unavailable, bringing Mattsson aboard as a recast would make storyline sense.

Joy Wesley Gives Chloe a Perfect Reason to Return

Chloe would also have an immediate family storyline waiting for her in Salem.

Her younger sister, Joy Wesley, is currently dealing with serious personal and medical problems.

Joy has been struggling with spinal issues while also becoming increasingly wrapped up in her relationship with Alex Kiriakis.

Philip recently confronted Joy over the fact that she had not told Chloe or their parents about her back surgery. He argued that her family deserved the opportunity to support her.

On soaps, repeated mentions of an off-screen character are often worth watching.

The fact that Chloe’s name is suddenly becoming relevant again could be deliberate groundwork for her return.

Chloe arriving in Salem to help Joy — and possibly stop her from making destructive decisions regarding Alex — would give the character an instant storyline.

But family drama may only be part of the equation.

Could Chloe and Brady Reunite?

A Chloe return would also shake up Brady Black’s romantic future.

Chloe and Brady have one of the deepest relationships in DAYS history. They have been lovers, spouses, friends and confidants through multiple chapters of their lives.

Their most recent attempt at reconciliation fell apart largely because of Brady’s daughter Rachel.

At the time, Rachel was fiercely determined to reunite Brady with Kristen DiMera and openly rejected Chloe. Chloe eventually stepped away because she did not want to damage Brady’s relationship with his daughter.

But Rachel has changed significantly since then.

After therapy, she has begun recognizing how unhealthy Kristen’s influence can be and appears more accepting of the idea that her parents may never reunite romantically.

She has also become more tolerant of Brady having relationships with other women.

That means Chloe could potentially return to a very different situation.

If Brady becomes single again, particularly if Sarah ultimately reunites with Xander, Chloe could easily become the person he turns to.

A Brady-Chloe reunion would also give DAYS the opportunity to revisit Rachel’s former hostility and perhaps allow her to apologize for how she treated Chloe in the past.

What About Philip?

Philip remains another obvious possibility.

He and Chloe left Salem together, and their romantic history goes back decades.

However, Philip is currently involved in his own complicated storyline with Gabi Hernandez, including their fake engagement connected to the Monte Carlo poker plot.

That could make a Philip-Chloe reunion less immediate.

Still, Chloe returning would inevitably affect him.

Even if the two remained only friends, seeing Chloe again could force Philip to confront feelings he thought were finished.

Is Chloe Lane Really Coming Back?

For now, DAYS has not officially confirmed that Chloe Lane is returning or that Sofia Mattsson is playing her.

But the clues are intriguing.

Nadia Bjorlin has confirmed that the show wanted her back. Chloe is suddenly being mentioned through Joy and Philip’s storyline. Sofia Mattsson has been filming in a secret role, and the timing of her casting could line up with the show’s search for another actress.

Nothing is certain yet.

But if Chloe Lane does walk back into Salem with a brand-new face, the character already has plenty of unfinished business waiting for her — with Joy, Philip, Brady, Rachel and possibly even Xander.

And for DAYS fans, Chloe’s return could open the door to one of Salem’s most emotionally complicated romantic stories all over again.
